Exhibition: Pocahontas and After
Border Crossings’ award-winning exhibition explores how Native American people have been represented in the Western world. Archive photos often show a cultural construction by the photographer, images of a romantic colonialism, rather than the reality of the subject’s lives. The project participants, including refugees, schoolchildren and diverse volunteers, have responded by making themselves the subject of their own narratives, in a range of fascinating and beautiful images, displayed alongside the archive originals;
